MATCH RECAPS

USTA Match against #1 Night Owls, #1 doubles team

Hola Tenista's,

It's that time of year again, when the trees turn green, the weather warms, the sky is blue, and the forehands and backhands start passing you left and right.

Last night was the annual kick-off classic as the formidable Carvajal/Lucas doubles team took to the USTA courts at Regency to compete for the cherished prize of not going home losers on that particular night.

The setting was perfect, a late 9:30PM match, hot/humid court conditions and Jared was vocal from 3-4:20AM the previous night.

The best of times started in the first set as Carvajal/Lucas commandeered the set, breaking the opponents twice and only giving up one Lucas serve (more on that later). It was a surprisingly clean first set, as Carvajal/Lucas played very well, very few unforced errors, and many volley/over-head winners.

The second set was the worst of times, as Lucas lost both service games. The right shoulder just isn't what it used to be. The drain of holding da'Boy and not playing last fall or winter hasn't been good. However, Carvajal has been training, been eating right, been reading the "Inner Game of Tennis", which is more than enough to make up for the Lucas service game.

On to the 3rd set tie-break we go. It's a battle to 10 points, win by 2. Lucas says to Carvajal, let's avoid getting into a hole, let's focus. It was a good plan, but a faulty one. The next thing Lucas/Carvajal know, it's 2-8. The best laid plans .......

Now for some unbelievable tennis. Lucas/Carvajal roll off 8 consecutive points, behind flawless tennis. 1 point, 2 point, 3 point rock, 4 point, 5 point, 6 point rock, 7 point, 8 point, 9 point rock, we're gonna rock, around, the court tonight ......

Lucas/Carvajal take the opening match of the season, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
